Terms of use
Last updated: 12 October 2026
Splitlife is a free app made by one person, Meet Patel (see the legal notice). By using it you agree to these terms. If you don’t, please don’t use it.
What Splitlife is
A record-keeping app. It helps you split costs with flatmates, groups and friends, keep track of shared bills and chores, and keep an eye on your student job. It never moves money. Balances, “who owes whom” and settle-up suggestions are a record of what you and the people you share with typed in — paying each other back happens between you, outside the app.
Guides, not advice
- Work limits. The 140-day year (or 280 half days) and the 20-hour week follow the rules for international students in Germany. Rules change and differ by permit, university and employer. Splitlife’s verdict is not legal advice; check with your employer, your university or the Ausländerbehörde.
- Tax estimate. The pay and tax figures are an estimate from what you enter, not tax advice. Your payslip and your tax office are what count.
- Scanned receipts. Text recognition can misread a figure. Check the amounts before you save an expense.
Splitlife is not affiliated with any government body, university or bank.
Your side
- What you enter is your responsibility — Splitlife is only as accurate as the numbers you and your group put in.
- Share a group’s invite link or code only with the people it is meant for: anyone with it can join and see that group’s expenses.
- Invite people by email only if they would expect to hear from you about shared costs.
- Don’t use Splitlife to harass anyone, to store anything unlawful, or to try to reach data that isn’t yours.
Your account
You can use Splitlife without an account; save one with your email to keep your groups on a new phone. You can delete your account in the app at any time (Profile → Delete account). Accounts that break these terms may be closed.
No warranty
Splitlife is provided free of charge and “as is”. It may change, be interrupted or be discontinued at any time. As a free service, the developer is liable only for intent and gross negligence. This does not limit liability for injury to life, body or health, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.
Privacy
What Splitlife stores and where is explained in the privacy policy.
Changes and law
These terms may be updated; the new version is published here with a new date. German law applies, unless mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence say otherwise.
